What Happened in 2002 – The Real Kidnapping of Kara Robinson

Not very often do we get to hear a survival story, but Kara Robinson has inspired many with her brave actions. So, what happened in 2002 and how she was abducted?

It was June 18, 2002, when Kara was watering bushes and plants in a friend’s front yard when Richard Evonitz, the serial killer, abducted her from West Columbia, South Carolina. By then, Evonitz had already murdered three young girls, and he took Kara to his home in South Carolina.

Kara’s time with Richard was no less than a life after death. He tortured and raped her while she was held captivate for 18 hours. But that did not make Kara weak; and she was smart and stronger than Richard.

Kara knew she had remained active and looked for a moment when she could find a way to escape. When Richard let his guard down, she got the opportunity she was waiting for. She escaped that deadly serial killer’s house and asked a passing car for help.

Kara informed the authorities about her ordeal. Richard fled to Florida, was cornered by the law enforcement authorities and committed suicide. It was because of Kara’s bravery that Richard was caught by the police, even though he committed suicide.

Where is Kara Now?

Kara was significantly impacted by those 18 hours and her abduction. She went through a lot of trauma, depression, anxiety, and PTSD but found the strength to voice out her experiences. She is currently helping victims move out of their horrible experiences and advocating child safety and vigilance.
