In his self-defense, Chalino took out his gun and they both started firing. Claudio Rene Carranza died and many others were seriously injured. 

On 15 May 1992, Four months after the Coachella incident, Chalino Sánchez was back in town, and while performing on the stage, someone handed him a letter. It is believed that the letter was a death threat to him.

After the show was over, he was driving back to his place, when a group of people pretending to be police officers stopped their car. Chalino Sánchez agrees to go with them. And the next day he was found dead by some farmers in the canal near the highway. He was shot at the back of his head twice and his hands were tied with a rope.
