The game follows girls’ adventures from rival kunoichi schools, as they are teleported onto a mysterious tropical island-like planet and challenged to defend shinobi lore. Although the game received high praise for its story and gameplay, some critics found it too heavy on fan service.

Metacritic gave the game a score of 67/100, which indicates “mixed reviews” or “average reviews”. Both the Vita and P.C. versions received similar scores with an aggregate score of 71%.
C.J. Andriessen from Destructoid gave the game a 75/100 rating. He said he enjoyed the “combination between flashy action, fan service” but that the game’s story did not do it any favors and was not the best in its series. The Vita version was playable but not as good as the PS4 version.
Jason Bohn, Hardcore Gamer, rated the game 3/5. He called the game “aggressively stupid” and “dumb fun”. He said that the game could be interpreted as objectifying women but it was played with a “wink” and a “nudge”, and that he wouldn’t be embarrassed to play it in the same room with his wife because the characters were strong.

Push Square’s Robert Ramsey rated the game at 6/10 stars. He called it a “reasonably strong hack and slasher” and the online multiplayer “shockingly solid”, though he noted that he had difficulty finding full rooms due the low multiplayer population.
