2022 US Open opening game at Arthur Ashe Stadium
The 2022 US Open might not take place until the end of August, however, we do already know that the opening games will be held at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The annual tournament takes place on the hard court surfaces that are located in Flushing Meadows in New York and with a number of competitors likely to head to the Big Apple and try to win the final major of the season, those in attendance can expect to see a range of exciting and hard-fought contests this summer.
When is the US Open scheduled to take place?
As we know, the US Open is the final tennis major of the year, therefore there is still some time before we actually see this competition begin. Nonetheless, with the French Open (the Roland Garros) and Wimbledon still to come, the competitive action in New York will come around very quickly.
Indeed, the competition is scheduled to take place between Monday, August 29, and Sunday, September 11, with a number of players looking to achieve one of the biggest prizes in the sport.
As mentioned, the opening games of this year’s upcoming event will be hosted at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, with a number of sessions set to be played on this particular court.
Which tennis superstars will we likely see at the US Open?
Of course, there will be many that will be interested in learning which tennis players will be competing at the 2022 US Open. With still so much tennis left to take place between now and then, though, it can be rather hard to try and accurately predict who we might be seeing take to the court in the First Round of this event at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Some of our best guesses would be the world’s best players from both the ATP and WTA Tours, with many of them wanting to win the final major of the season and being in a position to cap off the campaign that they had.
Many in Majorca, though, will be wanting to see Rafael Nadal compete in New York, as the Spaniard is naturally a home favorite after being born in Manacor; a small town on the Balearic Island. Indeed, many will be hoping that the Spaniard is able to enjoy success in the Big Apple; a location in which he has been rather successful in the past.
Whilst he has dominated the red dirt of the French Open throughout his career, Nadal has been extremely impressive in the past when it comes to playing in the final major of the calendar. As of this year’s competition, he has managed to win the US Open on four occasions, having scored victories in 2010, 2013, 2017, and 2019 editions of the tournament.
His four wins thus far have made this the second-best major in regard to the number of times that he has been crowned champion, with the 13-time French Open champion having won Wimbledon and the Australian Open twice – having recently won it in 2022.
Of course, that win at the beginning of the year is why there is a lot of excitement around Nadal and why many believe he could be the player to bet on to win the US Open this September, especially as sports betting within New York has subsequently gone live.
Residents of the Big Apple are now able to access betting platforms where they are able to place a wager on a range of different markets. Indeed, the Caesars New York sportsbook odds have already been provided on this competition, making Nadal one of the favorites to be crowned the champion.
The Spaniard has been priced with odds of +800, although it should be noted that there are a handful of players who are believed to have a better chance than one of the most successful tennis players to have ever played the sport.
Who could challenge Nadal for the US Open title?
At the time of writing – and it is important to remember that we are yet to have had the French Open or Wimbledon – Nadal is only considered to be the fourth favorite to win the upcoming 2022 US Open at Flushing Meadows. This could be down to a foot injury he has been dealing with ahead of the Roland Garros.
Indeed, and ultimately unsurprisingly, Novak Djokovic has been made the standalone favorite to be able to win this competition, with the Serbian having been provided odds of +150. The 34-year-old, though, did the last win the title back in 2018, therefore there may be suggestions that he is not the best person to place a wager on at the moment.
Then again, when thinking about tennis and winners, there are not many men who have been able to dominate like Djokovic has managed to do so.
The rest of the pack
As mentioned, there are two other players who are between Djokovic and Nadal currently be listed as favorites to win the upcoming 2022 US Open.
The closest challenger to the Serb is the current defending champion, Daniil Medvedev. The Russian is priced at odds of +250 and is thought to have a solid chance of retaining his title, whilst Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz Garfia is priced at +450 to take home what would be his first Grand Slam; should he not claim either the French Open or the Wimbledon titles.
Indeed, the 19-year-old has burst onto the scene and many are predicting that he could be the next Nadal, so it may not be a surprise to see him potentially shock the sporting world if he were to achieve victory!
Final Thoughts
Of course, there is plenty of time between now and the first match of the 2022 US Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium, however, there is no denying that the final major of the year is already shaping up to be one that could be one for the ages.
Will Nadal be able to claim his fifth title in Flushing Meadows, or will we see another great lift the trophy come mid-September?
